SLA Printing – Formlabs Form 4L Fleet
High-resolution resin printing for precision prototypes, smooth visual models, and tight-tolerance parts — with large-format build volume.
Machine Specifications
Build Volume (per unit)
Largest Formlabs SLA build platform
Dimensional Accuracy
Typical across XY plane
Layer Thickness
Material-dependent; standard 0.05 mm
Standard Lead Time
Including wash & cure cycle
The Formlabs Form 4L is the largest-format SLA printer in the Formlabs lineup, combining the sub-0.1 mm dimensional accuracy of photopolymer layer-by-layer curing with a build volume suited to medium-size engineering assemblies and presentation models. Our Form 4L fleet enables rapid turnaround on small production batches of resin parts, processed through automated Form Wash and Form Cure stations for consistent post-processing. Every build is managed with validated print settings per material and orientation to achieve the specified tolerances.
Best For
- High-detail prototypes requiring fine feature resolution
- Visual and aesthetic presentation models
- Small production batches of resin components
- Parts with tight dimensional tolerances (±0.1 mm)
- Dental study models and anatomical models
- Investment casting patterns and master models for vacuum casting
Not Ideal For
- High-impact or dynamic structural loading (resins are brittle vs PA12)
- Continuous outdoor UV exposure without protective coating
- Parts exceeding 300 mm in any single axis
- Very high production volumes (prefer MJF or SLS for scale)
- Parts requiring rubber-like flexibility — use SLS TPU instead
Typical Parts We Produce
Aesthetic Presentation Prototypes
Grey or Black resin; prime and paint to production appearance
Tight-Tolerance Mechanical Assemblies
Tough 2000 resin; ±0.1 mm achievable on critical features
Transparent Enclosures & Lenses
Clear V4 resin; post-polished for optical clarity
Dental & Medical Study Models
Grey or specialty resins; high feature resolution at 0.025 mm layer
Vacuum Casting Master Patterns
SLA masters for silicone mold production; dimensional accuracy critical
Thermal Testing Jigs & Fixtures
High Temp resin V2; HDT 238 °C suitable for reflow and soldering environments
Quality & Repeatability
Every Form 4L build is processed through our automated Form Wash stations (IPA cleaning) and Form Cure UV oven for consistent post-cure. Layer calibration is checked per build tray on a rolling schedule. Part orientation is reviewed by our team to minimise layer lines on critical surfaces and ensure support removal does not compromise dimensional accuracy. Tolerance certificates available for production orders. Visual inspection for delamination, trapped supports, or resin incomplete cure before dispatch.
